Pam originates from Mt. Vernon, New York—home of Denzel Washington, Heavy D, and Sean “Puffy” combs to name a few. Although Pam is a native New Yorker, her roots are sown deeply from Jamaica…not Queens—the West Indies! Like many first-generation daughters, she was instilled with a strong sense of pride by her mother and grandmother. Pam’s grandmother upheld the religious values and etiquette common in many Jamaican-American households. Her grandmother was an exceptional woman, and she instilled the qualities in Pam at a young age.
Growing up, Pam’s mother dreamed she would become a doctor because of her long, slender fingers. But after her first dissection in college, Pam quickly changed her mind! After changing her course of study to English, she dove into reading any and everything. Her passion for reading remains to this day, but her first job as a bank teller led her down a different career path. She’s worked in the finance sector for almost three decades, in cash management, real estate, and financial aid.
Throughout her life, Pam has honored her heritage in many ways—she is an expert in Jamaican cuisine. Traditional dishes such as peas and rice, brown stew chicken, oxtails, and jerk are just a few of the dishes Pam skillfully prepares. She also makes a specialty dish called escoveitch fish; pan-seared fish paired with a delicate sauce seasoned with scotch bonnet peppers, which gives it a unique flavor. It’s no wonder her passion for cooking and baking is probably one of the most rewarding parts of her life—her delicious creations are shared by many!
