Our 39th President, Jimmy Carter was born James Earl Carter Jr. on October 1, 1924. He served as president of the United States from 1977 – 2001. He married Rosalynn Carter in 1946 and is the father of 4 children.
In 1982, President Carter established the Carter Center as a place for meditation, a place where leaders of countries or regions in conflict could come to resolve their differences. The Center’s programs have touched lives in more than 70 countries by promoting peace and good health and, according to President Carter, has far exceeded his and Rosalynn’s and dreams.
He won the Nobel Peace Prize for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development in 2002.
In August 2015, President Carter announced he had cancer that had spread from his liver to his brain but vowed to continue his current routine as much as possible during his treatments which include teaching Sunday school at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia where he has been teaching for 35 years.
This highly respected world leader is still stunning in his 90’s and has professed his profound belief in Jesus Christ. He exudes inner peace, humility, and gratitude for the opportunities and privileges he has enjoyed in his lifetime.
We salute and celebrate President Jimmy Carter for the example he has set during his lifetime and pray for his recovery.
