Strawberry Festival – Let Go and Be Free!
I recently attended the 8th Annual Strawberry Festival in The Rock, Georgia…that’s right…The Rock, Georgia!
The Rock is an unincorporated community in Upson County, Georgia, United States. It is located on Georgia State Route 36, 7 miles northeast of Thomaston, Georgia.
The Rock Ranch and the home of this Strawberry Festival was founded by the late S. Truett Cathy of Chick-fil-A. It is a 1,500-acre working cattle ranch with more than 35 fun rides and attractions, delicious concessions, and a Georgia Grown Farm Market.
Highlight 1…Picking my own strawberries and eating the sweetest, creamiest, strawberry ice cream I’ve ever tasted…YUMMY!
Highlight 2…Meeting an AMAZING young lady named Robin. This 21-year old “Goodwill Ambassador” manned the Zipline attraction. I listened as she talked to other customers and her beautiful smile along with her opened spirit heighten my interest to try out the zipline ride.
We chatted for a moment as I began to psych myself up to go ziplining. I think Robin sensed my fear and began to share her story with me. It turns out that Robin was a two-time cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer called Ewing Sarcoma at age 7. Following chemo radiation for Ewing Sarcoma and being in remission for a year, she was diagnosed with another form of cancer called, Acute myeloid leukemia. This is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes abnormal myeloblasts (a type of white blood cell), red blood cells, or platelets.
Thankfully, she is on the other side of cancer now and is living her best life! This little dynamo personifies, GIRL POWER!!!! She lives her life with “NO FEAR”. Robin was the inspiration for me to overcome my hesitation and get on the zipline with her encouragement to LET GO and BE FREE! I don’t think she realized it but… her words changed me that day…Thank you Robin!
Highlight 3 …Releasing my fears and ziplining 800 ft at 22 miles an hour. WOW…the RUSH, the EXCITEMENT, the FREEDOM…the THRILL of VICTORY to just LET GO and BE FREE! Thanks again, Robin!
Stay tuned as we continue our travels to festivals across Georgia!
